The problem with Dells and Stereo mix!

A few of the people who use Paltalk like to be able to play music and talk through the microphone at the same time. This is done using Stereo Mix, but option hasn't been on newer Dells running XP (Vista pics at bottom from new Vostro). Dell corrected this by writing a new driver for the Sigmatel soundcard. Problem solved then....well not really. On installing the new driver, the Stereo mix option does now appear, but you can't adjust the microphone on the playback side.

When you enable Stereo mix it's normal for most systems to mute the microphone, but you don't have any option un-mute it that as microphone doesn't appear on the playback tab! You can't adjust the mic level either.
